[1] Mahfuz Anam and The Daily Star were wrong in their analysis of Al Jazeera story ‘All the Prime Minister’s Men’: Nayeemul Islam Khan

Nayeemul Islam Khan: [2] The Daily Star was wrong on February 4 in their news analysis on the so called Al Jazeera investigative report titled ‘All the Prime Minister’s Men’. According to that report, the purchase of a spyware, a listening device as they termed it was done with the help of a company owned by one of the fugitive brothers, which referred to a fugitive brother of Bangladesh Army Chief, General Aziz Ahmed.

The Daily Star was wrong because the report ‘All the Prime Minister’s Men’ did not give this information. Where did The Daily Star find this information? The Daily Star should give an explanation as this is false and dangerous. [3] In the same news analysis, The Daily Star was further wrong in describing the fugitive brother Haris in their language ‘There is disturbing boasting by a fugitive brother’. They could have ignored those boastings because Al Jazeera also described fugitive brother (Haris) as a ‘Psychopath’ (a person suffering from chronic mental disorder with abnormal or violent social behaviour). The Daily Star shouldn’t have given too much credence to the boastings of a ‘Psychopath’.

[4] Mahfuz Anam was also wrong in his ‘The Third View, in the The Daily Star, on February 5, 2021’ when he said that ‘All the Prime Minister’s Men’ has also ‘exposed the weaknesses of our media and the state of its freedom’. He also sermoned/added ‘if we are able to produce better investigative stories ………………. then we can criticize others’.
Here Mahfuz Anam is incorrect because Al Jazeera is not an independent international media like BBC and CNN who can do investigative journalism on many issues about their own country
Al Jazeera cannot do any such story about anything within the boundary of its country, Qatar.
In comparison to Al Jazeera’s journalism on Qatar, Bangladesh’s journalism (including the courageous journalism of Daily Star) is way more extraordinary. Al Jazeera should feel ashamed by any such comparison.

[5] Mahfuz Anam was also partially wrong when he questioned ‘How come we are publishing the government and military’s condemnation of Al Jazeera without ever telling our readers what Al Jazeera said or reported.’
He is wrong because he is not aware that the whole content of the Al Jazeera reporting was point by point discussed in most of the Bangladeshi television channels and moreover the Government of Bangladesh did not ban ‘All the Prime Minister’s Men’ and it has been viewed by millions.

[6] Mahfuz Anam also may learn from Al Jazeera that they never do any reporting against the national interest of Qatar. This is also true sometimes for even CNN and BBC when they also take care of their national interest.
So Mahfuz Anam and all of us should show some responsibility, at least during times like this to stand in support of national interest of our country.
